Seeing Spots

Spots on legs, spots on shoes, spots on hats, and spots on dresses, it is a Fall trend that is hard not to spot.

Apparently European polka music in the mid-1800s was when spots first started showing up regularly on the clothes people wore dancing. Someone coined the term polka dots and the spots have made it a long way from the dance floor.

I think the British would say the new Fall trend is " spot on ".

Over-the-Top Spots

Both these over-the-top spots are by Marc Jacobs ( who else ). Only Marc Jacobs can get away with such extremes and the spots remind me of his earlier obsession with oversize snaps.

Spots are everywhere this Fall but, no one is having as much fun with spots as Mr. Jacobs!

Sexy Spots

Who knew spots could be so sexy! I'm not sure which designer Emma Stone is wearing but, the brunette is modeling Stella McCartney.

My hot tip for finding interesting sheer fabrics with spots or other motifs is purchasing drapery sheers. Not only can the sheer fabric be beautiful but, drapes are usually a large usable size.

This summer I found a sheer drape with polka dots that looked alot like the fabric on Emma for $10 at Walmart.

Unfortunately I forgot to buy it:(

lovin' orange...

These are my favorite things that are orange. My orange shoes always gets loads of compliments. I know this isn't Sesame Street but, yay for the color ORANGE!

Art is Fashion is Art

I had the very good fortune this month to view the Picasso exhibit at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco. The exhibit continues until October 9, 2011 and it has 150 pieces representing Picasso's work from 1902 to 1970. It is almost overwhelming and fills NINE rooms.

As imagined such a long career meant that Picasso experimented with many styles. His Cubism and Impressionism years are my favorite and the exhibit did not disappoint. It is so amazing to stand inches away from the actual canvas of famous artworks and see the brushstrokes. To step back and wonder how did he decide it was finished? The works were all so unique and different.

The top painting from 1937 is Portrait of Dora Maar who was Picasso's lover. The lower painting is also from 1937 of another lover Marie-Therese Walter but, the piece is titled The Weeping Woman.
