Seeing is Believing

You gotta see this top to believe it. 

The top is made from strips of fabric ( obviously cut on the bias ) knotted together like macrame.

There are no seams- no side seams, no shoulder seams, no sleeve seams, no center front or back seam.

It is absolutely handcrafted, wearable art in the truest sense.

Rag and Bones is the label and $249 ( at Loehmans ) is the price.

I found Jason Wu.

Where is Jason Wu??

So this morning I drove to my local Target store shortly after the store opened to view the Jason Wu launch...
and once again I was totally disappointed.
Not because hoards of female had camped out and beat me to the collection BUT, because where was Jason Wu????
There was no  frenzy, no posters, no cute dresses??? Had I gotten the date wrong???

I inquired "Where is Jason Wu??"

The Target employee informed that their store was not deemed worthy of launching the line and the closest Target that would be launching the Jason Wu line was about 40 minutes away!!! The 3 closest Targets to my house did not even rate launching the line. Seriously!?!
So maybe I'll eventually find some Jason Wu and maybe not.
Once again I have the overwhelming feeling that like all previous Target launches it will all be sold out before I ever even find a store that stocked it.

A Really BIG Show

Last week I attended the opening day of the Road to California quilt show at Ontario Convention Center with my award winning awesome quilter mom.
This is about the fourth quilt show I've blogged on and honestly every show is better than the last.
What most of these artists have done with fabric makes you stop and marvel. I do not quilt but, after fighting the crowds for four hours my head was spinning with ideas to incorporate into garments.
So sit back, relax and I'll share a few of the highlights...

 Okay, so I know it's a quilt show but, seriously the three dimensional cloth figures were show stoppers. There just isn't anything else to say.

Fabulous Faces

 

 And while the cloth figures delighted me- faces are always my favorite thingI love looking at people's faces and capturing that human quality in any one dimensional medium ( ie., paint, chalk, pencil, cloth, etc ) is a talent I very much admire.
Of course I laughed when I saw the Jack Nicholson quilt but was quite awed by the workmanship involved in creating all the shadows and highlights with individual pieces of cloth.
At least those fabrics pieces were solid colors unlike the boy and girl faces. These faces are composed entirely of  small pieces of patterned fabrics!! It is truly unbelievable
